Pre-Production Planning
1) Script
INT. EMPTY GARAGE
James sits tied to a chair whilst Inez silhouette enters the garage.
James
What do you want from me?
Inez slides a photo of Betty onto the table.
Inez
I know you killed her.
James
You heard the police, it wasn't me she killed herself.
Inez
Stop lying to me James, I know you did it, you think I didn't see how you treated her. How you became bored of her, left her out in the dark like she was nothing.
James
Listen, just because it didn't work out between us doesn't mean I would kill her, I didn't do it, I swear. She probably went crazy after our breakup being the mad woman that she was.
James starts coughing up due to drinking water that's been poisoned.
Inez
Oh no, I apologise if tap water isn't your cup of tea.
James
You…… psycho……
Inez
I'm a what, sorry could you say that again I couldn't hear you the first time.
James
You're…… a……
Inez
Someone can't get their words out, it's okay James, sweet dreams in hell.
Inez drags his lifeless body away.
3) Mise-en-scene planning
Costume:
Inez- Biker jacket, denim flared jeans.
* Reflects the 90s style as biker jackets and flared denim jeans were a popular fashion trend in the 90s. The scene has to reflect the 90s as this is a flashback to the scene where Inez kills James.
James- Colourful retro windbreaker, sweatpants.
* Reflects the 90s style as colourful windbreakers were a popular fashion trend amongst men in the 90s. The scene has to reflect the 90s as this is a flashback to the scene where Inez kills James.
Taylor- Basic T-shirt, Jeans, coat.
* Reflects modern day fashion style as Taylor is the character in present time who is finding out about her mother killing a person.
Lighting:
In all my scenes throughout the 3 minute extract, there will be use of low-key lighting to reflect the conventions of a typical crime drama.
In the garage scene where Inez kills James, there will be use of back lighting to establish shadows.
Actors/Performers:
James- My brother
Inez- Me, however we only ever see the back of Inez therefore my face will not be shown.
Taylor- Me, however we do get to see Taylor's face.
Betty- My cousin, however the audience only sees Betty as a photo therefore she doesn't play a huge role in my production.
Make-up:
-Taylor will wear light feminine make-up to portray her femininity and reinforce the stereotypes of women wearing make-up.
-James will wear no make-up.
-Betty on the photo is wearing light make-up as well to yet reinforce the common female stereotypes.
-We don't get to see Inez's face in the scene she's in.
Props:
*Glass of water that is poisoned which is the way Inez kills James.
*Photo of Betty that is shown to James as Inez accuses him of murdering Betty.
*Cork-board filled with evidence that will be placed in Taylor's room.
*Camera which will have video graphic evidence that Taylor will find of Inez committing murder.
Setting:
*Empty garage where Inez kills James.
*Taylor's bedroom where we get to see the cork-board of her evidence.
*Park setting next to the tree where Taylor will find the camera dug up in the ground.
4) Shooting schedule
I need to film:
*Dialogue sequence between James and Inez.
*Killing sequence where Inez kills James.
*Taylor's bedroom where the audience gets to view her cork-board of evidence.
*Park setting where we will see Taylor dig up the camera with the recording of Inez killing James.
In order to film these scenes I need to have my brother and myself available.
