Mise-en-scene video feedback and learner response

 1) Type up your feedback from your teacher in full.

WWW: Cinematography- Bird's eye shot, Good voice over, Appropriate location- grass/leaves, Appropriate costume, Appropriate facial expression

EBI: Highlight keywords, Audio editing- no diegetic sound, no bird song, silence at start, hoodie wrong colour.

2) Use the feedback you've been given to write your own self-assessment of your video using WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If...)

WWW: Well recreated setting, good camera shots, well recreated facial expression.

EBI: Audio editing, long pause at start, hoodie wrong colour.

3) Now reflect on your own work in more detail. How did your planning help clarify and develop your ideas?

Planning our recreation task helped us get the exact camera shot we needed to get which was bird's eye view, we also knowing what setting we needed got to find a good spot to film the scene, we knew Leila had to wear a hoodie for the scene so we managed to plan it out to be as accurate as possible, we also planned to film it in broad daylight just like in the original to make sure the lighting is accurate and we planned to each do our own voice over to give it a different twist on the task.

4) Thinking technically, how could you improve your work for future videos? (E.g. filming, editing, etc.)

I believe i could improve my work on the editing part of things like diegetic sound, the zoom in camera angles, a more smooth effect, try not to create a random silence at the start and in general just improve on my editing skills.

5) Finally, what have you learned regarding the importance of mise-en-scene in film and television? Write a paragraph to answer this.

I have learned that the importance of mise-en-scene is very significant in film and television as it can create meaning without no dialogue needed. Most of the time we can even already make assumptions without having to watch the whole scene but based off the certain props, costumes, lighting we see it allows us to easily make an interpretation of what the film/show is about. We could link this to De'Saussre belief that meanings are polysemic therefore they are open to interpretation as well as they are culturally determined by the society we live in which allows mise-en-scene to be easily recognised by the audience. E.g a gun connotes violence, pink connotes femininity, dark lighting connotes danger, horror.
