Film Poster Analysis

The film poster features a Male character who is portrayed to be the protagonist/hero due to his serious facial expression as well as the white light shining behind his face interpreting to the audience that he is the Hero in this film. In addition his face being positioned in the centre of the film poster brings the audiences attention to him. Him also carrying a weapon in his hands reinforces this role as well as the stereotype that all men are viewed as heroes when they show an act of violence. On the contrary, the female character is portrayed to be the villain as in the 90's it was a common stereotype to present women who are smoking cigarettes as an evil character not only this but in comparison to the male protagonist she is surrounded by a dark colour scheme and is positioned behind the male character as if to present her as sneaky. Based on this the film contains Binary opposition roles with possibly a resolution in the end. I also can interpret that this film may feature a narrative structure of equilibrium-disequilibrium-new equilibrium as the tag line "Man has made his match now it's his problem" almost foreshadows that there clearly will be a disequilibrium at some point in the film, as well as based on the typical stereotype of action and science-fiction films they all end with a cliche ending of the hero being able to save the world or in general solve the disequilibrium and create a new equilibrium. The film definitely belongs to the Science- Fiction and Neo-Noir genre creating a hybrid genre based on the futuristic buildings and lights at the bottom of the poster as well as the darker side of the poster reinforcing the Neo-Noir genre. As well as the use of androids in the film reinforces the science fiction genre. The target audience could be young adults but also adults as typically we associate the science fiction genre as a genre that interests the younger generation yet the aspect of the genre Neo-Noir may interest the older generation that enjoyed the genre of film noir. This film may also be targeted to a more male audience as well due to the stereotype that only men enjoy films featuring violence and science fiction elements as well as the protagonist being a male himself even more reinforces this stereotype that men are seen as the violent gender.

The film poster features a group of young adults with overly exaggerated expressions and funny costumes reinforcing the genre is comedy as well as the tag line "Absolutely Hilarious!" The film clearly features intertextuality based on the two women in the front having quotes from previous horror films as well as certain characters like the priest in the left hand corner referencing The Exorcist. Based on the film being called "Scary Movie 2" indicates this is a sequel therefore this movie is part of a franchise which connotes it is successful. The setting in the background portrays a haunted house with doors being covered in cobwebs indicting this film is a hybrid genre-a mixture of comedy and horror. The characters are abnormal like the woman with a long tongue and no pupils as well as the woman in red holding a black cat which is a common stereotype in horror films that are seen as a evil omen. Based on the amount of characters seen i can interpret that there may be a multi-strand narrative featured and possibly some enigma codes due to the horror genre. The man in the middle having popcorn falling out of his head also connotes this film is a comedy. The target audience for this film is clearly young adults/teenagers due to the genre of the film being a comedy as well as the sexual jokes linked in this film like the quote on the woman's shirt "What lies beneath" This film is also probably directed to both genders as the cast features both males and females with none of the characters being categorised as the "Hero" in this film. I can also interpret that this film is directed to all ethnics due to the variety of ethnicity in the cast members.

The film poster features an older man standing alone by himself dressed in all black which we can connote with sadness, death and isolation. The setting in front of him is shown to be an isolated town with the colour scheme being mostly greyish purple portraying a distressing setting for the audience. Based on the setting of the film poster we can interpret that flashbacks may be used in this film to possibly portray life before the world that is shown in the film poster. In addition I can interpret this film belongs to the drama genre due to the setting looking extremely run down with the buildings all looking the same as well as there only being one character shown on the film poster we can interpret that we as an audience will be following his story line and that he will be the protagonist. Furthermore this film may contain enigma codes as the man being isolated will clearly face some problems along the way especially with his surroundings almost foreshadowing that something will go wrong. The target audience for this film is probably towards an older generation and predominately male as the protagonist is an older man himself as well as the poster contains a very bland colour scheme which would not interest a younger generation nor stereo typically female members of the public either.

The film poster features a young boy who's looking down into a hole in the ground which already creates an enigma code for the audience as we are left in the unknown as to what he's looking at but we can already suspect it's something bad based on his uneasy facial expressions. The title "I'm Not Scared" in bold capitals is already ironic in itself as we can assume this film is a thriller and typically in films children are portrayed as innocent and timid therefore we can already assume that the young boy on the poster will be scared during the film. The young boy being positioned in the center of the film poster also allows him to become the focus of the audiences view which we can assume he will be the protagonist of the film. Possibly the fact it's a young boy as a protagonist with the title of the film being "Im not scared" reinforces the stereotype that males have to be emotionless, brave and strong however we could argue this boy based on his uneasy facial expression is challenging that stereotype. Based on the protagonist being a young boy and the yellow, blue and brown colour scheme we could assume this film is directed towards young boys just like the protagonist himself. The narrative may be the young boy becomes a hero in this film based on some discovery he finds in the ground and tries to survive, based on the faces inside the title of the film, i can assume this film may include some flashbacks of those people inside the title.

The film poster features 3 male characters and 2 female characters in which all 3 male characters seem to be in possession of a gun whereas the female characters don't, this may be to present the male characters as the dominate ones and as if the male characters are there to protect the female characters. As well as one of the male characters is the main image of the poster and is positioned in the centre with the rest of the characters behind him, which we can interpret that he is the hero/protagonist of this film. The black background and their clothes all being black may connote criminalistic behaviour which we can assume will be the narrative of this film, as well as the bold red text of the title connotes danger and anger reinforcing this crime genre of the film however this film may be a hybrid genre due to the rain and the film being called "Sin City" reinforcing this thriller element of this film as rain is usually used in thrillers to create an enigma code. The target audience is more likely to be for adults due to the older actors on the film poster as well as the colour scheme of the poster we can assume will contain some very dark elements and the guns already portray violence will be a theme in this film. The woman with dark hair in the back is the only character having eye contact with the audience and with her tongue licking her lips indicating a menacing tone from her may suggest she is the villain in this film.

The film poster features 2 men and a woman in which only one male is in possession of a gun connoting that he probably is the protagonist/hero as he is the one in power with a weapon. Based on the title of the film "Pirates of the Caribbean" and the setting with the sea and ships and what looks like a tentacle we can already see that this genre is a fantasy, adventure and action movie based on the mythical creatures, the ships and the weapons. As well as the main character who has a bandanna around his forehead which we can assume that he is the pirate as he fits into the stereotype of a typical pirate seen in film. The skull and flaming torches in the title of the film also reinforce this action adventure genre.
As most action adventure films we can assume this film will follow a equilibrium-disequilibrium-new equilibrium theory as most films in this genre always start off normal and then a problem occurs but by the end of the movie there's always a resolution. I believe the target audience for this film is young adults/teenagers as most members in this age group like to enjoy films that are fantasy and involve elements that do not exist in the real world therefore would enjoy to watch this for entertainment purposes and escapism, stereo typically we could argue this film is more directed to the male audience due to the dark colour scheme and we usually believe pirates is a more male interest however the female that is on the poster brings more light onto the poster with her hair colour and clothes as if to reinforce the idea that females can watch male dominated media products and still enjoy them the same way a male audience would yet arguably, this film is dominantly directed to the male audience.

The film poster features a male and female character that are standing back to back which we can interpret they are the protagonists of this film not only are they standing in the centre of the poster but they're also the only characters in focus of the film poster.  We can already tell this film is a romantic-comedy genre based off the title in itself "Bride & Prejudice" which is clearly a spoof of the book "Pride & Prejudice" and this film is more of  a romance comedy instead of a romance drama like the book. The female protagonists pink dress also connotes this sense of romance. Based off this film poster, i can interpret that there will be some culture divide in this film due to the two different cultures shown on both sides of the film poster. Based off this film being a spoof of "Pride & Prejudice" i can predict that this film may contain some intertextuality from the novel. The male protagonist laughing also reinforces this idea that this film belongs to the comedy genre. The target audience for this film is probably young females and women aged in their mid 20s/30s as a common stereotype is that females are more likely to enjoy romance movies than men as well as the colour scheme of this film poster is very light colours reinforcing that this film is more for the female audience.

The film poster features a female character and 2 male characters. The female character is positioned in the centre of the film poster indicating to the audience that she is the protagonist of this film. Her wearing black gym wear and having her hair tied up with a serious facial expression subverts the stereotype that women are meant to be submissive and inferior to men. The black and red colour scheme conveys this drama genre as well as their facial expressions. Based on their clothing i can guess this film is going to be about possibly fighting, boxing some sport like that as the protagonist is seen wearing a gym top and has a muscular physique. Possibly this film will feature a equilibrium-disequilibrium-new equilibrium based on it's drama genre as well as possibly a multi-stranded narrative due to the multiple characters on the poster all looking in different directions. The target audience for this movie is probably mid 20s for both genders as the dark colour scheme may connote violence and dark themes and i believe it is for both genders as the protagonist is a female herself who presents herself as a strong woman indicating that both genders can watch films involving boxing/fighting.
